Hi I’m Quinn, I’ve been teaching piano since 2004. I specialise in teaching blues, jazz and making music fun. I teach from my home studio in Newcomb St, Ocean Grove, but I can also travel to surrounding areas to teach in your home (prices may vary depending on travel time).
My teaching style is based on the needs of the student. Some of my students excel within the Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB) structure, working through the grades and doing regular exams. Others do better just learning for pleasure at their own pace, whether it’s blues, jazz, pop-songs or the classics. Additionally, some students do better learning by ear, others have a gift for reading music, so I try to work with the student’s strengths to build confidence, then tackle at their own pace what they find difficult. I also try to instill an inquisitiveness about the theory of music rather than just learning by copying and repetition, so the student really understands what they are playing, and the knowledge is for life. Some other things about me:
- I encourage parents and carers to sit in on lessons and really get involved in the learning process.
- I have a current ‘Working With Children Check’ card, issued by the Victorian Department of Justice.
- Currently teaching ages 6 and up, beginners to intermediates, including jazz improvisation.
